About Taylor 2 and Paul Taylor Dance Company
Paul Taylor, a 1949 graduate of Virginia Episcopal School, went on to become a trailblazing professional dancer and pioneer of modern dance—his choreography noted for its physicality and grace as well as its cultural relevance and power to illuminate profound issues.
After more than 60 years, Mr. Taylor remains among the most sought-after choreographers in the world. His dances are performed by the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company, and companies including the Royal Danish Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Taylor 2, founded in 1993, not only brings Mr. Taylor’s choreography to audiences all over the world, the dancers also teach master classes and provide community outreach. In addition to the public performance Friday night, Taylor 2 is conducting two master classes at Virginia Episcopal School for their student actors and dancers. Other dancers in our community have been invited to participate as well. And, all VES faculty and students will enjoy a lecture demonstration Friday during VES assembly.
“The dances we’re performing at Virginia Episcopal School showcase the brilliance of Paul Taylor in a variety of dance styles and themes,” said John Tomlinson, executive director of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation. “These dances—a combination of classics and recent masterworks—are a marriage of some of the world’s greatest choreography performed by some of the world’s finest dancers.”
