All sections of U.S. History class—taught by Mr. Tra Nicholson and Mr. Alex Rivenburgh—were asked to create public service announcements (PSAs) about the current election. Groups researched issues of importance in the election to understand the policies, plans, programs and events of the presidential candidates and their parties. Students then partnered with peers in VES's Filmmaking class to develop 2 - 5 minute PSAs, presenting the facts as news anchors from both parties. Throughout the process students learned how media impacts political campaigns, positions and parties. Additionally, students learned how the study of political, social, and economic patterns can reveal continuity and change over time, as well as how geography impacts the perspectives and beliefs people hold.
