VES swimming opened the season with a small group traveling to Roanoke to swim against Roanoke Catholic and Christian Heritage Academy.

Returning swimmers were Ana Brown, Hadley Turton, Ike W., Jackson Bauer, Jim Smith, Kevin Wang, and Ryan Liu. Making their first appearance for the Bishops were Madi Williams, Stella Jo, Turner Thompson, and Vane Peniche.

The meet was off to a strong start with the 200 Medley Relay - the boys (Smith, Wang, Bauer, Liu) finished 2nd and the girls’ team (Brown, Jo, Turton, Thompson) had a close race to finish first. Jackson Bauer and Ana Brown both took first in the 200 FR. Hadley finished second in the 200IM. In the 50 FR, Ike W. and Jim Smith took second and fourth respectively and Turner Thompson, Vane Peniche, and Madi Williams finished second, fifth, and sixth for the girls. Jackson and Ana lead the 100 FR races, finishing first in their events. In the 200 FR Relay, both boys and girls finished in first place. In the 100 BK, Ryan finished third and Hadley finished first. In breaststroke for the boys, Kevin and Ike finished second and third and Stella secured first place in the girls’ race.

All swimmers in attendance had solid first-meet performances. Due to our low numbers, we left a few events empty and lacked the depth to pick up points after first place. I am looking forward to our home opener on December 7 (Covenant, Christian Heritage Academy, New Covenant) when we will have more of our swimmers off the blocks.
