Now more than ever, people are finding their voices and standing up for their beliefs. At VES we hope to create a space where everyone can listen, learn and speak. To achieve that, we must first establish a basic set of standards that express the way we want to be treated and promise to treat each other in shared spaces at school. So, one week ago, VES students collaborated by dorm and as a day student cohort to generate 10 shared commitments. By this past Sunday night groups had translated their commitments into flags to share in their spaces. And at assembly on Monday, students from each group shared their commitments and flags with the school. These powerful commitments included the right to be treated with: inclusivity, kindness, empathy, equality, patience, honesty, open hearts and minds, dignity, thoughtfulness and maturity and optimism.
