On Wednesday, October 18, VES was honored to welcome Erskine Bowles '63 to campus as our second Thomas Family Speaker. The Thomas Family Speaker Series, generously endowed by Dorothy B. and Lee M. Thomas ’62 in 2022, has further enhanced the VES experience for our students, providing them with the opportunity to interact directly with professionals who have become true leaders in their respective fields.
During his discussion with our community, Erskine answered questions about his experience as a VES student and how it shaped him, as well as his professional experiences, career in public service, time in the White House as Chief of Staff during the Clinton Administration, involvement in the Bowles-Simpson Plan, and the importance of his family throughout his life. While on campus, he also went on a campus tour led by Mary Clare Caprise '24, enjoyed lunch at the Robert Carter Jett Memorial Head of School House with the Counselor Body, attended two classes, and met with staff members to learn more about the current state of the school. VES remains grateful to Dorothy and Lee Thomas, Erskine Bowles, and Bill Harrison, our inaugural Thomas Family Speaker, for making these opportunities possible for our students.
