VES Community Learns Benefits of Living Substance-Free
At VES we care deeply about the health and wellness of our community. Brain science tells us that the desire for adventure, excitement and action increases during the early teen years—a time when students want to take more chances, try new things and be more independent. Now is the time to talk with students about the risks and realities of substance use.
As part of our Student Life programming, each year we invite a representative from the nonprofit Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD) to work with our students, faculty and parents.
Throughout this week, the program will provide the knowledge, understanding and skills students need to make intelligent choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use that support happy, healthy, drug-free living.
FCD is a nonprofit that hosts highly trained professionals who have achieved long-term recovery from prior alcohol or drug addiction. Their first-hand experience and unique, authentic perspectives on the reality of the situation enhances the credibility of their message and allows students to see its legitimacy. VES has partnered with FCD for several years, and we are happy to welcome them back this week.
