Daniel O’Brien Finishes Outdoor Track Season Strong

This past weekend, Daniel O’Brien ’20 wrapped up a successful junior-year campaign at the New Balance Outdoor National Championship at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC. Daniel placed 8th out of 40 runners in the Boys Championship 2-Mile in a time of 9:16, only 2 places and 4 seconds shy of the New Balance All-American. He was the 3rd fastest junior in all races combined. His time converts to a 9:12 3200-meter, only 5 seconds off his personal best despite a slower, tactical race that forced Daniel to take the lead early. Post race fatigue and 90-degree temperatures made for a challenging 1-mile race the next day, where Daniel managed a 4:26. These races concluded a successful Outdoor Track season in a year where Daniel won three individual conference and state titles; VISAA Outdoor Track State MVP; qualifying marks for Penn Relays, Festival of Miles and NBNO Championship races; and a personal best and new school record of 4:14 in the 1600-meter run.
