Out of 70 works of art from students representing 11 of the area’s high schools, four Merit Awards and only one Best in Show were awarded at the Regional High School Art Exhibition sponsored by the University of Lynchburg. The exhibition, which ran from February 20 - March 6, was designed to acquaint art students with the significance of exhibiting their art to the public. VES visual arts teacher Jesi Thompson had seven students participating in the event which she considered “a fantastic opportunity for her student artists.”
This year, VES senior Sadie Royer walked away with the top prize for her work entitled “Historic Home.” The panel of judges, comprised of several members of the university’s Visual Art Department, described Sadie’s work as clearly “standing out above the rest.” This piece is just one of several works of art included in Sadie’s Advanced Study project that will be showcased at VES later this spring. Congratulations, Sadie!
