VES Students Earn Eagle Scout Honors

Congratulations to Nate Baugher ’20 and Jack Prahinski ’21 on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Their Eagle Scout Ceremony was held on Saturday, February 23. Family, friends and several VES students and faculty joined in the celebration. The road to this achievement takes several years to complete and culminates in the completion of their Eagle Scout project.

Nate constructed raised garden beds at Lynchburg Humane Society in Lynchburg, Virginia, used to grow sweet potatoes and other vegetables to supplement the dietary needs of the animals. Helping with his project were brother Jake Baugher ’19 and fellow Troop 7 member, Sean Wiger of E.C. Glass High School. The real work was dividing over one ton of compost and peat moss between the two garden beds.

Jack assisted in the restoration of a historic outbuilding located on the grounds of Historic Sandusky in Lynchburg, Virginia. The project included digging up and sorting through 1,400 pounds of brick, hauling away 300 pounds of brush and general beautification of the site. VES students Jack Sorenson ’21 and Will Orchowski ’22, and Taylor Toone, who attends New Covenant, all helped lend a hand.

All of the boys are members of Boy Scout Troop 7, First Presbyterian Church (FPC) in Lynchburg, Virginia. Troop 7 was founded in 1954 on the VES campus. The troop’s charter eventually moved to FPC. Troop 7 welcomes all VES students who are Scouts to their meetings held on Monday evenings at 7 p.m.
