VES Celebrates MLK Jr. Day with Alumnus Guest Speaker
Dr. Marvin Barnard '71—one of the first Stouffer Scholars to integrate VES—shared an inspiring and thought-provoking message with our VES community today. It was an honor to have him join us to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and revolutionary spirit.
Marvin Barnard spoke about the connections we all share through the concept of six degrees of separation and encouraged us to strive toward zero degrees of separation, noting that the more we live and engage, the smaller the world becomes. Dr. Barnard suggested we internalize values and beliefs of those we admire and make them a part of who we are. He also reflected on MLK Jr.’s dedication to equality and challenged each member of the community to rise up to his/her full stature and work toward the world King dreamed of.
