Girls Tennis Takes BRC Championship

The VES girls tennis team accomplished a major feat this year—following a regular-season perfect record (10-0), they wonthe Blue Ridge Conference Championship.
Saturday’s match against twice-defending state champion North Cross School included thrilling but convincing victories for Hundley Burger ’20, Bebe Brogan ’19, Carly Chafin ’21, Katey Thomson ’19 and Sally Curme ’19 at #1, 3, 4, 5, & 6.  Galyah Ghajar ’21, at #2, went to a tie-breaker against her opponent, but this time came up on the short end. Carly Chafin’s match was the “clincher” to secure that necessary 5th win. Individual BRC awards were numerous, including BRC Player of the Year Hundley Burger, and a well-deserved “Coach of the Year” for Anna McWane. All-tournament players were Hundley, Katey and Carly. All-conference nods went to Hundley and Galyah.
The team now stands at 12-0—the best record among D-2 schools in Virginia—and will host a to-be-determined opponent at the VES Craighill Tennis Center on Tuesday, November 6 for the VISAA D-2 State Quarter-finals.
Congratulations to this extraordinary Bishops squad!
