Weekly Sports Round-Up: August 27 -31

With the heat and humidity of summer still hanging in the air, our VES Bishops took to the fields and courts on Friday for two season openers.

Varsity Volleyball traveled to Charlottesville to take on Division 1 St. Anne’s-Belfield. In a full team effort, the girls battled through some tough rotations to take the win in three straight sets (25-22; 25-21; 25-19). Seniors Megan McGrath, Grace Williams, Ariel Mial, Bailey Hargrove, Cameron Basnight, Janae Bennett and AP Buresh led the team offensively and defensively with a combined total of 17 aces, 23 kills, 30 digs and two blocks. Janiera Carr ’20 and Emma Bell ’22 made their varsity team debuts.

Varsity Boys Soccer opened with a game at home versus another Lynchburg team, Holy Cross. With Harry Cook ’21 making his varsity debut as goalkeeper and four goals from Cole Workman ’21, the Bishops went on to win the match 9-1.
