Upper School English Teacher
Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill a full-time position in English for the 2024-2025 academic year. Specifically, we are looking for a passionate candidate with a love for language who can teach 9th, 10th, or 11th grade core English classes, with the possibility of teaching a senior English seminar.
In addition, this individual will engage in the many other duties required as a member of a residential boarding school community.
The successful candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s in a related field, which is a requirement for this position. Masters in a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and strength in teaching analytical writing.
- Demonstrated experience and strength in teaching rhetorical strategies that help young writers harness voice and style.
- Prior experience in working with student literary publications is preferred.
- Excitement to collaborate with grade level teams and the English and History departments.
- Demonstrated experience with student-centered educational practices and experience in a variety of teaching methods.
- A desire to actively engage in a variety of school needs, including coaching, serving as an advisor to a small group of students, leading afternoon clubs and activities, and assisting in residential life as a dorm parent or member of a duty team.
- The ability to enjoy, engage, and inspire adolescents to strive toward their best in the classroom and community, as their teacher, advisor, coach, and dorm parent.
- Experience in boarding school is preferred, but not required.
- Prior experience in coaching is desired.

On Call Nurse
Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill a On Call School Nurse for the 2023-2024 academic year. Available are on-call night shift positions staffed from 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. These individuals will serve on a team that provides for the health and wellbeing of all students—260 day and boarding students in grades 9 - 12—through Health Services at VES, as well as in collaboration with the students' families, the school and community resources. Specifically, under the supervision of the Health Center Director, the nurses are responsible for medication administration and providing preventive, acute and follow-up care for day and boarding students in a multi-cultural setting during the academic year.
We ensure quality, compassionate nursing services that are effective, culturally appropriate, and responsive to the diverse and changing needs of our students and our school community.
Healthcare Requirements
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Certified in CPR and BLS
• Minimum of one year’s experience with public health, community health, school health or adolescent medicine/pediatrics preferred.
General Requirements:

• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently, using critical thinking skills.
• Computer literate – experience with Microsoft Office—especially Excel—and electronic health records
• Must be able to manage multiple demands including frequent phone calls from faculty/staff, parents, and students.
• Must understand cultural and age-specific needs to deliver appropriate care.
Essential Job Functions:
• Maintains all student health records including but not limited to immunizations, physical examinations, medications, and health insurance in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Association of Independent Schools, HIPPA regulations and standards of practice including confidentiality.
• Provides preventive care, including verifying that student vaccinations and medical records are current and kept up to date.
• Delivers routine, acute and follow-up care, including providing direct nursing care for sick or injured students.
• Participates in the evening/night/weekend on-call rotation, which may include telephone or email consultation and/or in-person response at the clinic, on dormitories, or to the site of the call, and communicating needs to the duty team on a case by case basis.
• Manages medication administration, including dispensing medication to students and keeping accurate medication records, communicating with parents about medication concerns.
Physical Requirements:
• Daily desk work, including significant amounts of telephone and computer time.
• Frequent walking both inside and outside on all surfaces
• Navigating steps.
• Some lifting
• Able to respond quickly and efficiently to calls.

Tennis Head Coach
Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill the position of Tennis Head Coach. This part-time position is responsible for supporting the school’s mission in the tennis program.
The Head Coach is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Create and implement clear standards and expectations of both coaches and players within the tennis program aligned with and supportive of VES’s expectations of coaches and players.
- Work closely with the Admissions Office to identify and recruit mission-appropriate student-athletes.
- Work closely with the Athletic Director to support the needs of this program.
- Implement individual off-season and in-season skill development, including strength and conditioning.
- Work closely with the assistant coaches on practice planning and execution and game preparation.
- Ensure compliance with Conference, VISAA and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Work closely with the Admissions office regarding student admissions.
- Recruit and evaluate coaches and support staff in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty and/or Athletic Director.
- Create and execute Coaching Professional Development workshop and opportunities for all coaching staff.
- Participate in VES public relations activities, including website content development and updates, social media, interviews and speaking engagements, working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Prior Tennis Head Coach experience highly desired.
