The VES equestrian team offers coaching to riders with a breadth of experience—from beginners to competitive hunter/jumpers.
The team rides out of the scenic Thistlewood Stables on 103 acres in nearby Goode, Virginia. The stables include 14 stalls, a large 12' x 12' wash bay; two tack rooms with custom cabinetry, a large sink with a half bath; an outdoor arena; several pastures; miles of well-maintained trails and a cross country course that boarders the Big Otter River.
Riders have the opportunity to train in the hunter, jumper and cross country disciplines. Beyond lessoning and honing their horsemanship skills, riders compete in local and regional SWVHJA and BRHF shows, and participate in clinics offered by local professionals.
The team is coached by Caitlin Unterman, a seven-time regional champion hunter/jumper and zone finalist with more than seven years training experience, VES science teacher and owner of CULU Equestrian Training.
