“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” ― Pablo Picasso
Join a vibrant, creative community at the intersection of thinking and making. In Visual Arts at VES, we explore the interplay of culture, history, artistic expression, analysis and hands-on creation. Students work closely with faculty and peers to develop artistic ability, inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking and the art of self-assessment and constructive criticism.
We offer a broad range of courses in painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture and photography as well as co-curricular opportunities in the interdisciplinary arts that allow for innovation and growth. Students are taught perspective and the basics of composition and encouraged to develop their own personal styles. With guidance, beginners gain self-confidence while serious artists work to build portfolios.
Students regularly exhibit their work in our King Center gallery and in site-specific installations on campus, where students are actively involved in the curation and exhibition of their work. Our students also display their work in art shows and galleries throughout the Lynchburg community.
