Note to Applicants
We want to hear from you! Please fill out your Applicant section and answer the questions on your own and in your own voice. Authenticity is more important than perfection. Just follow these steps:
- Read through the application.
- Take time (but not too much time) and give some thought to your answers before you start to write.
- Be sure you are telling us some things you want us to know about you and why you will be a good fit for VES.
- PROOFREAD your work.
- Send it to us, along with a photo of you and the $50 (domestic) or $150 (international) application fee.
Note to Parents/Guardians
Please allow your child to complete the Applicant section on his/her own. The application is an important step in helping us to get to know your child.
Please complete your section and tell us what we ought to know about your child so that we may best serve him or her.
Interview
The interview is a required part of the admission process. Currently, we are conducting interviews virtually and in person. If you have not yet scheduled your interview, please contact the Admission Office at 434.385.3607 or admissions@ves.org.
Standardized Testing
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, VES has adopted a test-optional policy during this admission cycle and will not require applicants to submit standardized test scores (the SSAT, PSAT, SAT and ACT). This year, the following are your options:
- If you are entering 9th or 10th grade and choose to take the SSAT, please register here and submit scores before February 1. VES’s school code is 7972. Please be sure to request, at the time the test is taken, that the test results be sent directly to VES.
- If a student chooses to not take the SSAT, we ask that the student submit a graded essay that includes the teacher’s comments.
- Students applying for the 11th or 12th grade may submit a PSAT, SAT or ACT score instead of the SSAT.
- If you have a comprehensive evaluation, including a WISC, WJ, etc., please include the complete results, summaries and recommendations.
Transcript/Recommendations
Please submit the transcript request form to your current school to have an official transcript and standardized test scores forwarded to VES. Have the school endorse a school profile and attendance record. VES requires recommendation forms from your current English and math teachers. The guidance counselor recommendation is part of the transcript request form. The Admissions Committee also welcomes letters from other teachers, friends or alumni who know you well and are interested in advocating on your behalf.
