Pannill-Smith Hall
VES’ New $15 Million Humanities Building — Opening Winter 2023
Pannill-Smith Hall is the first new-from-the-ground-up building erected on the VES campus since the construction of Van Every Athletic Center more than 25 years ago.
Named for beloved alumni and former trustees Will Pannill ‘73 and the late Chris Smith ‘82, the building held a special place in our hearts even before construction began.
Designed by Glave & Holmes Architecture in Richmond, Pannill-Smith Hall’s classically proportioned, dignified exterior was designed to signify the importance of what happens inside: the VES humanities program.
While VES continues to invest in our robust science, math, technology and arts offerings, the school is mindful that the hallmark of a VES education has always been to teach our students how to write, to think about history, and to analyze, discuss, communicate, and collaborate. The VES faculty believes it is more critical now than ever before to prepare students with the communication skills they will need in college and beyond.
We invite you to enjoy videos about the design and the naming ceremony, and read coverage about Pannill-Smith Hall as it comes to life over these next months.
