Curriculum & Departments

The VES academic curriculum delivers all of the courses you expect in English, History, Science, Math and World Languages, and many more across the 90 classes in our curriculum.

Classes at VES will stretch your mind. Teachers will engage you in spirited discussions, critical thinking and collaborative design. You will share your point of view and learn from the different perspectives of peers in small class settings. The core curriculum includes programs like our Science and Math Advanced Consortium, fascinating electives, and our Advanced Studies Program for those ready to push themselves to explore an area of interest in great depth.

Learn on Multiple Levels. VES offers three levels of classes—regular, 17 Advanced Placement courses, and advanced/honors classes—such as our Science and Math Advanced Consortium, Multivariable Calculus, and Spanish VI—in many academic departments.

In your senior year, you can apply to the VES Advanced Studies program, where you will complete a project in an academic discipline of your choice. You will be supported by a faculty mentor as you engage in independent research while producing work to share within the VES community.

Beyond the Core Curriculum. We encourage you to take electives in areas that interest you, like Economics, Gothic Horror, Photography, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and World Religions.

We offer an innovative four-year Computer Science program, and courses such as Video Production, Public Speaking, Technical Theater, Jazz Ensemble, Glee Club, and other subjects that will stretch your creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.

Making Connections Across the Curriculum. You will build connections across subject areas through our interdisciplinary humanities work.

Charting Your Course. Thoughtful and deliberate planning of your coursework will ensure that you are well-prepared for your future. You will be encouraged to work closely with your advisor and, when appropriate, our college counselors to develop a clear path and specific course selections that excite and challenge you as you strive Toward Full Stature.
