On Call Nurse
Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill a On Call School Nurse for the 2023-2024 academic year. Available are on-call night shift positions staffed from 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. These individuals will serve on a team that provides for the health and wellbeing of all students—260 day and boarding students in grades 9 - 12—through Health Services at VES, as well as in collaboration with the students' families, the school and community resources. Specifically, under the supervision of the Health Center Director, the nurses are responsible for medication administration and providing preventive, acute and follow-up care for day and boarding students in a multi-cultural setting during the academic year.
We ensure quality, compassionate nursing services that are effective, culturally appropriate, and responsive to the diverse and changing needs of our students and our school community.
Healthcare Requirements
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Certified in CPR and BLS
• Minimum of one year’s experience with public health, community health, school health or adolescent medicine/pediatrics preferred.
General Requirements:

Essential Job Functions:
• Maintains all student health records including but not limited to immunizations, physical examinations, medications, and health insurance in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Association of Independent Schools, HIPPA regulations and standards of practice including confidentiality.
• Provides preventive care, including verifying that student vaccinations and medical records are current and kept up to date.
• Delivers routine, acute and follow-up care, including providing direct nursing care for sick or injured students.
• Participates in the evening/night/weekend on-call rotation, which may include telephone or email consultation and/or in-person response at the clinic, on dormitories, or to the site of the call, and communicating needs to the duty team on a case by case basis.
• Manages medication administration, including dispensing medication to students and keeping accurate medication records, communicating with parents about medication concerns.
Physical Requirements:
• Daily desk work, including significant amounts of telephone and computer time.
• Frequent walking both inside and outside on all surfaces
• Navigating steps.
• Some lifting
• Able to respond quickly and efficiently to calls.

Tennis Head Coach
Virginia Episcopal School seeks to fill the position of Tennis Head Coach. This part-time position is responsible for supporting the school’s mission in the tennis program.
The Head Coach is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Create and implement clear standards and expectations of both coaches and players within the tennis program aligned with and supportive of VES’s expectations of coaches and players.
- Work closely with the Admissions Office to identify and recruit mission-appropriate student-athletes.
- Work closely with the Athletic Director to support the needs of this program.
- Implement individual off-season and in-season skill development, including strength and conditioning.
- Work closely with the assistant coaches on practice planning and execution and game preparation.
- Ensure compliance with Conference, VISAA and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Work closely with the Admissions office regarding student admissions.
- Recruit and evaluate coaches and support staff in conjunction with the Dean of Faculty and/or Athletic Director.
- Create and execute Coaching Professional Development workshop and opportunities for all coaching staff.
- Participate in VES public relations activities, including website content development and updates, social media, interviews and speaking engagements, working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Prior Tennis Head Coach experience highly desired.

Director of Mental Health Services/Mental Health Professional
Virginia Episcopal School seeks a highly qualified individual to serve as the full-time school mental health counselor for the 2024-25 school year, providing behavioral health support and engaging in prevention and intervention activities; supporting and educating faculty and staff about best practices in caring for adolescents; and consulting and advising on student status, assessments and treatment. This full-time, 10-month position reports to the Associate Head of School and is a member of the Medical Team. This position is essential to guiding and supporting the development of healthy, joyful young adults striving toward their highest level of personal achievement—what we call Toward Full Stature.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individual/group counseling to students on an as-needed or emergency basis.
- Work with families and refer students, when appropriate, to outside mental health providers.
- Provide real-time crisis support when a student is in critical need.
- Serve as on-call mental health professional when students are on campus (this is a shared responsibility).
- Provide support and supervision of other counselors in the school community, including interns and
the school’s Licensed School Counselor. - Serve as a resource and consultant on adolescent student mental health for all students and staff.
- Coordinate care for students with the Health team, including the Costas Wellness Center staff, the school chaplain, and school counselor or contracted services.
- Develop and maintain a network of local providers for referred care when students may need additional off-campus, but local, care.
- In collaboration with the Director of Community Health and Wellness, develop and track appropriate metrics focused on evaluating student social well-being and mental health.
- Provide counseling support and care, as needed, and especially during crisis situations where students or the community are in need of counseling services.
- Ensure that all required health records are maintained in the prescribed format and in a manner which retains medical confidentiality and complies with HIPAA.
- Coordinate, enhance, and teach aspects of the school’s Student Life curriculum as assigned.
- Think holistically and develop school-wide programs around wellness at VES.
- Be an active member of the VES community including attending meals, participating in activities, and actively engaging in the lives of the students in our care.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
- Licensed mental health clinician, or license eligible able to submit application to the Virginia Department of Health within 18 months of hire.
- Completion of master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling or related field.
- At least 3 years of work experience, preferably in an independent school environment.

Medical Insurance
If you elect employee coverage, VES pays 100% of the basic school group health insurance plan for you. You may elect additional coverage beyond the basic plan, such as a reduced-deductible plan, family coverage or additional available services. And you can tap into support from knowledgeable advisors with our insurance broker who help to ensure you select the best insurance option for your anticipated needs.
Dental Insurance
We offer dental coverage through Delta Dental on a voluntary basis in which the employee pays the premium. The plan available covers two annual preventive care visits per person and, at varying levels of coverage, routine dental treatments, replacement work, endodontic and periodontic services, and oral surgery. Orthodontics are not covered.
Vision Insurance
This voluntary plan that you may purchase is offered through EyeMed and covers exams with a small co-pay, and provides allowances toward and discounts on frames, contacts, laser vision correction, hearing exams and hearing aids.

Dependent Care Reimbursement

You may set up an HSA—a triple-tax-advantaged account—to pay for qualified healthcare, dental and vision expenses not covered by insurance, including copays and deductibles, that you may incur now or in the future. You can contribute funds to the account on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions.
Pre-tax Premium Deductions
Employees enrolled in our medical and dental plans as well as optional life insurance may opt to participate in VES’ Section 125 Plan, in which premiums are deducted from employees’ paychecks on a pre-tax basis.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) allow you to set aside pre-tax money to pay for eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses.You decide how much to contribute to your FSA(s) each year during Open Enrollment based on your unique needs.

Life Insurance
We offer full-time employees—at no cost to you—a life insurance policy in an amount equal to twice your annual wages.
Income Protection in the Event of Disability
- Short-term disability is partial income replacement for a period of time if you are unable to work due to illness, injury or childbirth. Participation in this plan is optional and premiums are paid by the employee. Currently, the plan pays 60% of your salary or wages for up to six months after two weeks of leave for a qualified reason. We strongly urge employees to make the small investment in this important benefit.
- Long-term disability (LTD) starts when your short-term disability benefits end. LTD pays a percentage of your monthly earnings until you return to work or reach age 65. Your LTD is currently paid 100% by VES. The plan provides up to 60% of your base pay after a 180-day elimination period.
Paid Time Off and Leave

Holidays
Each year, 12- month staff typically receive 15 holiday days off per year. Holidays for faculty and 10-month Student Support Services staff are determined by the school schedule.
Vacation
Faculty and 10-month Student Support Services staff typically take vacations when school is not in session (for some, administrative time may be required when school is not in session). Administrative 12-month employees receive paid time off as follows:
3 weeks during the first 5 years
4 weeks beginning with the 5-year anniversary
5 weeks beginning with the 10-year anniversary
Sick Leave
Faculty and other 10-month staff receive 4 days per year of paid sick leave, and 12-month staff receive 6 days per year.
Family and Medical Leave
VES will grant unpaid medical leave in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and/or applicable law. Generally, the FMLA entitles eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for specified family or medical reasons.
