Why Getting a Good Night's Sleep Is Essential for Learning

"Sleep on it" takes on new meaning as scientists learn more about the link between healthy sleep and learning and memory.   

At VES, our Student Life program is designed to help students understand many important life topics ranging from health and wellness to proper nutrition, to how the brain works and, yes, healthy sleep habits. In fact, starting this week, all VES freshmen will begin tracking their sleep habits in their sleep log.

"Sleep on it" takes on new meaning as scientists learn more about the link between healthy sleep and learning and memory. Research shows that not only does a good night's sleep help us remember more and perform better, while we sleep neurons are forming more new connections—in fact, helping us to learn more during sleep.  

At VES, our Student Life program is designed to help students understand many important life topics ranging from health and wellness to proper nutrition, to how the brain works and, yes, healthy sleep habits.

All VES freshmen will begin tracking their sleep habits for the next two weeks in their sleep log. Students will analyze their results with the student's advisor and Student Life leader, and a plan to ensure adequate and healthy sleep will be built so that VES students can ensure their learning success.
