Fine arts Incredibly, 40% of VES students participate in the performing arts at any given time. 100% participate -- creatively participate, not just by sitting in a class and hearing about it -- at least once during their four years. There are plenty of opportunities for every student. For those who enjoy music, there's our Glee Club, Vocal Ensemble, and Instrumental Ensemble, as well as classes in music history and theory. Students interested in drama are kept busy with the fall play, winter touring company, and spring musical. They're also busy in the classroom, where they learn about the technical aspects of theater and performance. Artists of all mediums find an outlet in our studio art classes, and we show off their creations in the school gallery and in the hallways, which are always lined with student artwork. Students with a real passion for the fine arts may take their talent overseas to Spoleto, Italy, where they can participate in the Spoleto Study Abroad Program, a month-long intensive fine arts workshop. We're constantly looking for ways to showcase our students' talent, and to help them develop that talent into more than they dreamed possible. Fine arts requirements include the following: new ninth graders must complete one credit (1/3 in theory or history), 10th graders must complete 2/3 credit, and 11th and 12th graders must complete 1/3 credit. |
