English You'll read some mind-expanding books in your English classes, and just as importantly, you'll have some great conversations about them. Your readings will draw from the classics -- Flaubert, Ibsen, Hemingway, and Faulkner, to name a few -- but you will not be anchored there exclusively. More contemporary authors, such as Capote and Krakauer, will speak to you as well. You will read often, and you will be asked -- often -- to discuss what you read. Ibsen's ideas are important. So are yours. In your readings, you'll be looking at the best of writing. You'll learn various strategies and techniques and become increasingly aware of the worlds of other writers and how they relate. Over the years, you too will learn to write -- and learn to write well. Four credits in English are required for graduation. |
