Scholarships, Financial Aid and Tuition
VES recognizes that the choice for a private school education requires a serious commitment on the part of both the family and the institution. In an effort to assist families, Virginia Episcopal School provides a financial aid program, which includes need-based grants and merit-based scholarships. Annually, VES awards over $1,000,000 in financial assistance to approximately 45% of the student body.
Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships are awarded to select students on the basis of academic achievement, participation outside the classroom and leadership skills. All new applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships upon completion of the admission process. Competitive applicants will demonstrate consistent, quality academic performance and contributions in areas beyond the classroom, including performance or studio art, leadership, community service, or athletics. Applicants may submit supplemental information to support their candidacy.
All applicants are automatically reviewed for merit scholarships ranging from $2,500-$15,000 for A/B students.
Scholarships range from $5,000 - $15,000 for boarding students and $2,500 - $7,500 for day students. Awards are renewable each year as long as the student remains in good standing. A limited number of awards are available. Priority consideration is given to candidates applying by February 1.
Need-Based Grants
Students who wish to be considered for need-based financial aid must apply for admission and be accepted. Parents must complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) administered by the School and Student Service (SSS). The PFS can be submitted online through SSS or in paper form. Financial aid application packets, including a PFS, will be mailed to interested families beginning in October of each year. Download our 2010-2011 Financial Aid Program brochure.
Application Procedure
Complete the PFS in print form or online. The VES school code is 7972. Submit the original PFS by January 15 to the SSS. Submit a copy of the PFS, your Federal IRS Tax form 1040 with all supporting schedules, and the VES Additional Funds Form by February 1 to the Director of Financial Aid, Virginia Episcopal School, 400 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
Note: If your tax form cannot be completed by February 1, you may estimate the figures and complete the PFS before the published deadline.
